Astrology is simply the observation and interpretations of the varying aspects and influences of the planets to each other.  Perhaps the oldest of "sciences", astrology is geocentric and still refers to the Sun and the Moon as planets even though, we now know, they are not.

Sun Sign Astrology is a one-size-fits-all approach that is useful because the sun, as the most powerful influence in our solar system, determines the basic and most profound elements of the personality in the western system of astrology. For example if you were born in the month of April, you would most likely be born with your sun in the sign of Aries the Ram. This would indicate that you are probably active, extroverted, and a bit "hard-headed".

Vedic or Hindu astrology, on the other hand, while using the planets, considers the Moon to be of paramount importance.

Chinese Astrology is altogether unique, having no equivalent in Western astrology. As in Vedic astrology, the Chinese system is Lunar instead of Solar. It incorporates a sixty year cycle of animal signs, five elements, and the Eastern philosophy of Tao and Yin/Yang.
